Tobacco smoke comprises two types: main stream and side stream smoke. The main stream smoke is inhaled by the smoker. When a person smokes, his delicate airways are injured. Side stream smoke is emitted from the burning tobacco and is inhaled by persons sitting beside a smoker. Side stream smoke is more toxic. Main stream smoke is cleaned or filtered somewhat as it passes through the unburned tobacco while the side-stream smoke goes directly into the air.
